Frederick D. Van Tress

Born: March 02, 1938
Died: March 19, 2012

Fredrick D. VanTress
2 March, 1938 – 19 March, 2012
Fred died unexpectedly at his home in Elk, Washington. He is survived by his wife Peggy, two children Stacey Gatlin and Mike VanTress, and four grandchildren. Fred was a loyal devoted husband, a principled loving dad and grandfather, and a man who both his children and grandchildren look up to as a role model.

Born in Bremerton, Washington, Fred grew up in Spokane. After graduating from Mead High School in 1956 where he played football, Fred attended Olympic Junior College back in Bremerton where he also played ball. In 1964 he was married to Peggy Still and fathered a son (Mike) and daughter (Stacey). Working for Kraft Foods Inc., the VanTress family lived in numerous places from Clarkston, Washington to Anchorage, Alaska. With home being where the heart is, the VanTress family ended back in Spokane and eventually to Elk.

Fred had so many passions in life. But if you had to mention only one, hunting and fishing it would be! Fred's exhilaration was contagious when he would tell stories about Clancy (his hunting dog) retrieving duck decoys just after they were set up...Clancy collapsing a duck blind when the action was on...or landing not just one, but all of those 20 to 50lb salmon while living in Alaska.

If there was just one word to describe Fred, it would have to be altruism. His incessant contributions to the community began in his early adulthood with the Shriners Childrens Hospital. Today his resume includes not only the Shriners, but: Washington State Hunter Education, Pend Oreille County Volunteer Fire Department, Gideons, and an being an elder at the Peaceful Valley Church.

Fred has touched the lives of many, and will be truly missed by all those who knew him. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday March 31, at Peaceful Valley Church. 201 Allen Rd. Elk, Washington 99009. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Peaceful Valley Church in memory of Fred.
